Biography

Dan Clune assumed responsibility as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim for the Embassy of the United States of America in Canberra, Australia on January 20, 2009.

He arrived in Canberra to serve as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy on 4 February 2007. From 2005 to 2007, he was the director of the U.S. State Department’s Office of Monetary Affairs and served as Head of the U.S. Delegation to the Paris Club. From 2002 to 2005, he was the Director of the State Department’s Office of Economic Policy and Public Diplomacy. From 2000 to 2002, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau. Previously, he worked as the Trade Advisor at the U.S. Mission to the OECD, and spent a year at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative as Director of Middle East and Mediterranean Affairs. He has also served at U.S. embassies in Lima, Peru and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Mr. Clune is a graduate of Boston College and Boalt Hall, the law school at the University of California at Berkeley. He practiced law for ten years in Chicago before joining the Foreign Service in 1985. He has been married for 37 years to Judy Clune, an artist, and has three daughters.
