Submit Your Application at the Consulate General

The final step in the process of obtaining a U.S. non-immigrant visa is to submit your application at the Consulate General, and interview with the consular officer.

Before leaving for the Consulate General that serves your area, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Have I paid the non-refundable application fee at Australia Post and have the original receipt with me?
  • Have I filled out and signed the application forms relevant to my circumstances?
  • Have I had the correct sized color photograph taken?
  • Have I remembered to bring all of my required supporting documentation?
  • Have I prepared a registered return envelope for the Consulate to return my passport by registered mail?
  • Have I scheduled an appointment through the VisaPoint service and remembered to note the correct time, date and confirmation Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
  • Have I read the Consulate's Security Notice?

If your answer to each of these questions is "Yes", you're ready to submit your application and interview with the consular officer!

Contact and visiting information for non-immigrant visa applicants

Please remember that consular officers must often process large numbers of applicants, and so are unable to conduct lengthy interviews with each person. Be prepared to answer questions about your job, long-term plans, family, and host in the United States, so you can communicate as much to the officer during your interview as possible. It may even be helpful to rehearse your interview with a friend or family member on the day before your appointment.

We regret that due to the size of our waiting room, we are unable to accommodate friends or family members accompanying you who are not applying for visas, with the exception of parents of minor children.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the United States. We look forward to having you here!
